Adventure, romance, and vengeance on the coast of medieval Ireland. When the kilted, handsome head of Clan O’Conner captures the daughter of his rival clan, McCleary, years of animosity and distrust must be conquered to dispel a common threat.

The story intrigued me — it held so much promise. The problem was not with the story itself, for it was there, and by its strength alone was I able to finish this book. Venne did a wonderful job in placing her reader in time and place with carefully nuanced details. However, the storytelling was often flat. Had the author bothered to inject as much passion into the rest of the story as she did in her romantic scenes, it would have offered a greater layer of depth overall.

The book is pocked in places with poor sentence structure, grammatical issues, and awkward shifts in point-of-view which often forced me to go back to re-read in order to decipher what I thought was trying to be conveyed. I felt the main romance blossomed way too fast. Predestined or not, the blood feud between the two characters who are drawn together romantically left the gates wide open for some wonderful conflicts and tension, but the author failed to follow through offering instead a maudlin attempt at sizzle.

Despite some shining moments, overall, this intriguing tale was a bit of a disappointment.

Being very busy with multiple jobs, it took me almost a year to finish other books I had left on the shelf, half read, and begin Ms. Venne’s novels…I wish I would have just started right away! What an exceptional story she tells. Filled with history, mystery and romance – I couldn’t put it down. “Of Gifts and the Goddess” is a must read!

—This book had such a mixture of suspense, romance and yes a little eroticism. I was thoroughly pleased with the book and could not put it down. This book was so fascinating that I purchase Ms. Venne’s new releases and send them to my friends and family as gifts.

I was a bit skeptical about this book as I was afraid that it would contain a thick Irish dialog that would be difficult to read. Imagine my surprise when upon opening the book, I was drawn into Anne’s story so deeply that I could barely put the book down. If you are looking for a book that is a mixture of culture, romance, adventure, and even a bit of history, all wrapped up into an entertaining novel, this is a must read. I look forward to the Michelle’s future writings.

Michele Venne has written a spellbinding tale packed with action, romance, and mystery. Combining history of real clans with interesting folklore, she has created a story I didn’t want to let go. I’ve interviewed Michele for authorswebtv.com, and am looking forward to her next book. If it’s even half as good as Of Gifts and the Goddess, it will be another hit! A great read, Michele.
